On Friday 31 January, Peak School's PTA held an event in school to launch their appeal to raise funds for communication devices for the students.
The 'What About Us' event was attended by parents, carers and local community leaders, together with High Peak Radio and the Buxton Advertiser, to find out what this's year's appeal was all about. Peak School unveiled their 'What About Us' single, which can be purchased from the school, and video that can be viewed on YouTube.
iPads are used as communication aids for the students, alongside Makaton sign language, Picture Exchanged Communication System (PECS), ‘Big Mac’ Switches and other forms of communication. The aim is to raise more than £10,000 to provide each class with more of these communication aids, enabling the non-verbal children to communicate their needs with ease.
The wish for this year's ‘What About Us’ appeal is to have a year packed full of fundraising events and they're hoping for families, carers and the wider community to get involved in helping with the fundraising appeal.
